Since I was castigated by Ezra last week, I’ll kick it off this week by saying: I still think our hosts are overstating the “guilt by association” argument as it relates to the Military Industrial Complex’s (MIC) adventure in Iraq and Afghanistan. In this week’s show, I thought it was revealing that although the Mexican American War was judged to be immoral (which I think it was), the Church’s role in it was justified by our collective financial and political needs. What? No rant from JC against Brigham Young?! Of course Brigham Young was not guilty in supporting an aggressive war; the very same way a Soldier who must feed his family should not be condemned for his participation in the War (or I, as a servant of the MIC developing UAV technology). Again, Ezra’s temple clearing analogy notwithstanding, I think you judge too harshly. But, I do love the show … keep it up.

  2. Hey guys, great episode! I wanted to recommend looking a little deeper into the history of the war of 1812. There were some very obvious manifestations of diving intervention on the side of the United States but only in situations of true defense like the tornado that overtook the British armies after they invaded and burned the White House. This account can be found in the book “Washington Weather” by authors Kevin Ambrose, Dan Henry and Andy Weiss

Its also interesting that the colonial armies failed miserably in their efforts during this war to occupy portions of Canada and many militia members refused the orders to invade. One reason militias were favored as the plan for the “security of a free state” was because they tend to only me motivated for truly defensive efforts.

The war of 1812 is a great example of how a war, on the whole, can be too complex to be “all good” or “all bad” but that the Lord still reserves his protection and assistance for justified portions of that war.

I’m also glad you guys had the guts to point out the very flawed principle from W. Cleon Skousen’s book. I have some recorded audio lectures and in one of them he talks about how the Constitution was great because it set up a such a strong Federal government, and that the United Nations charter is a “weak instrument” and needs to be much stronger like the Constitution. This really threw me for a loop when I heard it.

Hey if you get a chance, I’d like your comments on a video I made regarding liberty, warfare and supporting of candidates in light of LDS doctrine. Its located at:

When it comes to the Mexican-American War I think that you are walking a slippery slope by saying that B.Y probably got us involved for monetary reasons.

Sounds like Article of Faith 12 is being completely forgotten! This states: We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers and magistrates, in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law.

I do not believe that the Lord could not have found other ways to help the saints monetarily if that is what they needed. This was a chance for the Prophet to show to the Saints as well as the government that, article 12 was not lip service. At no point did B.Y. support the war. It was not supported monetarily by the church and I have not found a talk to date that supported that war. We obeyed and honored in a very real unmistakable way what we believe.

By honoring and obeying the prophet, who honored and obeyed the President, the saints were blessed by not having to fight, helping to make it easier for people to move west and setting up more territory’s for the Saints to live in.

The slope gets more slippery when talking where saints are going to stand with the Lord for having fought in the wars. We do not have the right to judge what other people are doing and why they are doing it. We have Absolutely No right to judge where people are going to end up in the hereafter. I have no problem judging the situation but not the individual.

Some of the things that have been said on the show have been eye opening and true. Thank you guys for sharing your gifts!
