If not, then why? &quot;United we stand, divided we fall&quot;? I have never heard a defense of that concept. It&#039;s just stated, and that&#039;s the end of the argument. 		<description>I agree, I looked into this a couple years ago shortly after I started listening to Ron Paul, He said the same thing.  Lincoln did create this monster of the Federal Government.  One thing to remember in all of this is that one of the roles of the Federal Government was to ensure liberties to all of its citizens.  Of Course black&#039;s rights were not afforded them and something should have and was done.  What was done is what i disagree with for all the same reasons you mention.  One thing I learned was the manner in which ALL other countries solved their slavery issues.  The federal government of those countries simply bought the slaves off of the slave masters.  By doing what Lincoln did he perpetuated hate and violence in all Americans for centuries to come.  Shortly after the slaves were freed several blacks were elected to congress, and it seemed that they would do just fine.  But because of the hatred of the former slave owners and southerners, ... mostly because of the terrible war, caused whites to organize in &quot;secret combinations&quot; (the KKK) to ensure that blacks could not vote.  This drove Black Americans into an alternate society in which they kept themselves separate.  Blacks created their own society, in which they too had hatred and angst towards most whites too.  This is just another subset of problems that still continues on even in today&#039;s world.  The U.S. government&#039;s treatment of minorities including Mormons, Indians, Blacks, etc. in our history has been atrocious, and has caused a great deal of damage that still exists in our current society.</description>
