Taxation discussed in the Book of Mormon / Mosiah 2:12–14 / John Locke / Tim Geithner / John Hancock / Mosiah 11:3, 6 / Mosiah 19:20 / Government of God by John Taylor / When [governments] and rulers set the pattern, they generally find plenty to follow their example / Government should follow the 10 Commandments / Exodus 20

I’m a bit late in listening to this, but I also want to let you guys know that John Hancock also stated that he wanted the king to be able to see his name signed on the Declaration without having to wear his spectacles.
So Far I’ve listened to the first 31mins and this is what I have to say. I need to post before I forget.
I agree. Taxation is stealing…and stealing is wrong. Not only would conscience suggest such but so would the writings of Isaiah. Isaiah is such an interesting prophet. His prophesies are true multiple times. I believe he had a very intimate knowledge of the reoccurring patterns that develop as moral societies erode. That’s why his prophesies are still relevant today even though many of his prophesies/predictions have past.
2 Nephi 13:5 Could be viewed as socialism. “And the people shall be oppressed everyone by another and everyone by his neighbor”
2 Nephi 13:12 Bad leaders can influence people to do bad. “They who lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths”
2 Nephi 20:1 Later Isaiah warns those that “decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed”
Jeremy stated at Min 30 “I am for the government simply following the 10 commandments” Though I am strictly for the government “following” the 10 commandments I am adamantly opposed to the government legislating the 10 commandments. Only those commandments that injure life, liberty or property should be legislated. Say no to legislating morality, Say yes to protecting liberty. Gods laws are just so the immoral will receive justice enough.
I loved the connection of “In God We Trust” to blasphemy. I’d never heard or considered this or even given it much thought, but I agree.
I just subscribed so hopefully I’m not caught by the spam filter now.
Where’s the file for this one? Is it going to be put up again? It’s nice to hear other Mormons think taxation is theft. Progressives hate that idea and go crazy. Even some conservatives for that matter.
