    ‘Bout time!

The author of the post you’re responding to is essentially not really Mormon.

In the comments below her blog post, the author says, “We will never acheive [sic] true peace until people stop saying ‘God said…’ when speaking about a political topic.” To put it less nicely, she apparently rejects inconvenient revelations. But it gets worse. She goes on to say, “I’ve read many books about the history of ‘God’ and I can tell you, I will never disrespect another countries [sic] ‘God’ ever again – because they were all around before my own God was. Who am I to put their God down or say I’m right?” (emphasis mine)

This is a woman with essentially no testimony whatsoever. That she calls herself a Mormon is ludicrous.

You may already be aware, but interestingly and sadly, it turns out that Gabrielle, whose Manifesto you reviewed in this episode, has decided to leave the Church.

Her “Manifesto” was posted 12/20/09. Her “Very Personal Decision to Leave the LDS Church” was posted January 7, 2010.

She seems to have had her fair share of challenges in life. In many cases, maybe self-inflicted.

    Hopefully, she finds her way.

I was not aware of Gabrielle’s decision to leave the church until I read your comment. I am saddened by her decision and, with you, hope that she will find her way.

  6. The idea that comes to mind is the 12th Article of Faith – “And allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where or what they may.”

I have been an online acquaintance of Gabrielle for over 3 years, and her blogging and faith have been through constant metamorphosis. She was a convert to the church, who gave her devotion to the LDS faith despite questions that she couldn’t seem to get answers to. There is some validity to some of the points you bring up, but in general this is a blatant personal attack on the personal faith of another child of God. I consider myself devout, and have been a lifelong member of the church, but I don’t think there’s any problem in personal study, pondering, and prayer regarding my personal beliefs. It doesn’t seem like you are trying to understand the “spirit” of her post, but instead are mocking the “letter” of her post. Despite our spiritual and political differences, I have a lot of respect for Gabrielle and her courage to be public with a very personal matter.
