The pledge is one of allegiance to the state, a state whose foreign policies are indirectly responsible for what occurred on 9/11. Had we stuck to Washington's counsel of free trade and non-interventionism, there wouldn't have been a 9/11. Unless America's foreign policy changes, we can expect more 9/11s in the future, I'm certain.
